The "Schwarzwald Bio-Weiderind" producer association is an active community of farmers who cultivate the land according to the rules of organic farming. The currently approximately 170 member companies do not use chemical-synthetic fertilizers and pesticides and do not use any growth promoters when raising their animals. The affiliated organic farmers cultivate their land in the most energy- and raw material-efficient way possible. As organic farms, they are regularly inspected by state-recognized inspection bodies. Since 2016, they have also been certified according to Naturland guidelines. The farms are mainly located in the Waldshut district and the neighboring regions (Freiburg area, Offenburg and the Upper Black Forest).
After calving, the calves stay with their mothers and grow up in a herd under natural conditions. From at least May to October, the cows and their young are constantly outside on the pastures, helping to keep the Black Forest cultural landscape open. During this time, the animals feed exclusively on the strong grasses and valuable herbs of the meadows. Since the mother cows are not milked, their milk is available to the calves. The young animals therefore drink between 2,500 and 3,500 liters of fresh milk during their rearing. Organic pasture-fed cattle are therefore predominantly a product of suckler cow farming. In winter, the feed base also consists of green fodder. It doesn't get more organic than this!
The cattle grow significantly more slowly than intensively fattened animals. The species-appropriate husbandry with grazing and natural nutrition guarantees optimal meat quality. Short transport routes serve to protect the animals and ensure meat quality. Less than 4 hours of transport time between the farm and the slaughterhouse is a mandatory requirement. The animals develop an excellent grain of meat due to their healthy diet and slower growth. This gives the meat its special taste and tenderness. The "organic pasture-fed beef" is also characterized by a high proportion of the valuable omega-3 fatty acids contained in the meat, which are mainly produced by the grass-based feeding. These fatty acids are essential nutrients, i.e. they are vital and cannot be produced by the body itself.
